Vlora International Airport will be officially managed by Munich Airport, as Infrastructure and Energy Minister Belinda Balluku announced after meeting with Lorenzo Di Loreto, representative of the German airport.
The international tender was won by a consortium that includes Mabco Constructions, a company owned by the entrepreneur and politician Behgjet Pacolli, the Turkish group YDA and the Kosovar group 2A Shpk.
The works for the construction of the important infrastructure started in 2021 in an area located 10 kilometers north of the city of Vlora. The project involves the construction of a 3.2 km long runway, a hangar for aircraft maintenance and a cargo terminal.
The international airport of Vlora, scheduled for completion in April 2024, will be the largest in Albania, which already has two international airports in Tirana and Kukës, on the border with Kosovo. Minister Balluku foresees the creation of around 1,000 jobs, with an estimated number of passengers at around 10 million a year.
